I am an artist and am considering having my own web page, but wonder if it TRULY helps you sell? How much did your sales increase, and did it help you get more "known"?

Please, only artists with their own web sites reply to this.

Web sites are all about marketing, if you don't know what you are doing then pay a profesional to advertise. If you don't have the money...forget it.

Without a doubt, websites help you sell...but if you don't have the visitors (traffic), you don't get the sales.

The best starting place is Ebay, you already get the traffic to your items then.

Yes, I agree that Ebay doesn't seem to sell a lot of high quality items...but it may be a good small income stream for the odd, quality artwork that you do sell (remember, many streams make a river), and the better your refferals and feedback, the more sales you'll make. Just a thought.

I am an Artist and a Web Designer, and having a web page or website does help you sell your art work.

You sales will increase because you have a broader audience to sell it too. I create websites and logos and have sold more websites to companies in the outer areas than in state.

If you need a web designer who will make sure your business is seen on the major search engines such as MSN, Yahoo, Google, etc... contact me personally. You will find that our prices and quality are better than most on the web.

A good way would be to advertise on another web site made for selling art. They might take a bit off the top from each sale, but more people will see your art, too.

I have an art page on a website that i use as an online portfolio for my friends and potential clients to view. Alot of the work i get is commissioned work, by word of mouth, and i think my family and friends have more to do with it than the website itself. My work can be checked out at hellosanantonio.com under artist name ''Guerro'' in the local artists section.

Hi Ann,

I have a website and a couple of blogs.

It's always good to have our name out there.

Remember that whil I'm here helping you with your question I'm also your competitor. So it's of my interest that when people search on the net, my name comes before yours.

Besides my regular website, I also have other ones.

Let me post some links of my web presence, begining with my main website :

having a website as an artist is very beneificial to selling your work and advertising yourself.traditionally, people would buy art by going to differnt galleries around the city or state deciding what to buy. so what ive learned is that people like about art websites is that they can go to your website, and decide what they wish to buy, without having to go to the gallery and leaving empty handed. what you have to decide is that if you would request people to pick up the work they are purchasing, or if you would ship it to them.

best of luck!

I have my own website..but since I put little to no effort into getting any traffic there, it doesn't really benefit me at all right now.
