My ex boyfriend uses acrylics. One thing to consider is that they shrink when paint is put over a large area. I had a hat get smaller and the shoes do get smaller or lose their stretch. You just might want to put the paint in some places and not totally cover the shoes.

Note fabric paint is acrylic paint. I just learned that in a class that I took last weekend.

If the rubber part of the shoes are white, spray paint will probably crack once it is dry. Try a permanent marker. Do 2 or 3 coats. let it dry good between coats.

I use acrylics with a textile medium. No need to spray them after wards.

I'd use fabric paint.
