When I say romanticism, I mean the typed of literature from the 18 and 19 century. If you are unfamiliar with the painting, please look it up. I would greatly appreciate it if you have an idea of how is relates to Romanticism. Thank you.

Firstly, before I answer, I would like to point out that there are substantial differences between Romanticism in art and Romanticism in literature. Your question is a bit confusing, but I'll answer it from the art-Romanticism point of view.

Your first clue is that Casper David Friedrich painted it, and he was a well-known Romantic painter. Now look at what the painting depicts: the subject matter is meant to reach beyond the conventional landscape to inspire emotion in the viewer - that's the central goal of Romantic art. Instead of a normal beach-scene under the sun, Friedrich paints a night-time scene with a rocky beach and eerie reddish light cast by the moon. The feeling is one of mystery and indulgence in the beauty of nature.

Hope that helped :)
