so for my english paper, i have to write a compare and contrast essay between these two paintings. my professor says to find an idea (like loneliness, loss, or sorrow) that justifies the compare & contrast. what i cant understand is the similarity between the two paintings! both paintings are completely different, i need to write about meanings that both works of art share.

I would say that they both convey loneliness though they do it in different ways. Both make the viewer feel a sense of loneliness because there are not other people in the painting. An empty bedroom is always lonely in a pathetic sort of way. A night with stars need not be lonely but its huge size makes us feel lonely because it makes us feel small. The room on the otherhand is claustrophobic making us feel trapped in an empty place.

You might also talk about Van Gogh's unique textural style that also is similar in both.

hi hi, properly, no longer strictly speaking, yet Starry night and doubtless different artwork to boot, might in effective condition into the gang if one took the Surrealist's innovations and utilized them to Vincent's artwork. for a cool adventure detect a action picture (CD) pronounced as "desires" by Akira Kurosawa. thank you on your question, be heat and correctly, jb

maybe you can get some ideas from the context of the paintings, and the artist's state of mind when he painted them.

there's a database of his letters at this website:
