considering that oil takes for much longer to dry, you'll sculpt it very good. so your gradients, when you rather paintings with them, will pop out very delicate. that's why many oil art work have an overly practical high-quality. it takes alot of sufferers and train to acquire this so running with one portray for a month or so whilst doing acrylic throughout drying durations is the pleasant guess. even be mindful that it's hazardous to wipe off oil paints from brushes to your epidermis or apparel considering the fact that over the Years it will possibly reason melanoma or tumors or different harm. additionally use a good ventilated field as a result of the chemical compounds within the paint and the turpentine.

It is hard to learn about oil painting through the internet. The subject is to in depth. Buy a book to help you. Amazon website sells a variety of books on oil painting and acrylic painting. Here are a few tips to help you:

There are 3 grades of paint:

1. "Artist Grade" or "Professional Grade" paints are the best paints to buy because they are highly pigmented, permanent, archival, and lightfast. Your paintings will last for centuries. Artist grade paints will generally have the word "artists" as part of the brand name. Artist grade paints are very expensive.

2. "Student Grade" paints generally have a lower pigment concentration (color strength is lower). A beginner should buy student grade paints because it cost alot less than artist grade paints and it still allows you to do PROFESSIONAL PAINTING TECHNIQUES with them. Some student grade paints are labeled lightfast, light resistant, fade resistant which will slow down the rate of your paintings fading. Student grade paints will generally have the word "studio" or "students" as part of the brand name.

3. "Scholastic" paint or classroom/kids paint is the WORST paint you can buy! These paints generally use a lower quality pigment or dye, the lightfastness is generally poor, and it is HARD to do professional painting techniques with them. (OIL PAINT ONLY COMES IN ARTIST GRADE AND STUDENT GRADE.)

SOLVENTS

Solvents are used to thin the paint and to clean the paintbrushes. Solvents used in oil painting have some toxic properties. Eco-House Inc. makes natural and safer products to use for oil painting such as paint thinner, linseed oil, varnish, damar, drier blend.

1. Eco-House 125 Neutral Thinner

2. Eco-House 115 Extra Mild Citrus Thinner

3. Eco-House 915 Orange Terpene is an archival solvent made from food-quality ingredients which can be used as a substitute for turpentine.

REQUIRED RULES FOR OIL PAINTING

1. Must Paint "Fat Over Lean" Technique To Help Prevent A Cracked And Less Durable Paint Film.

2. Must Paint "Slower Drying Paint Over Faster Drying Paint" To Prevent A Cracked Painting.

3. "Thick Over Thin" - Always apply thicker paint over thinner films.

WATER MIXABLE OIL PAINT

There is a new type of oil paint called Water Miscible/Water Mixable/Water Soluble Oil Paint. These paints are similiar to regular oil paint but they can be thinned and cleaned with water (not solvents), plus they dry faster and clean up is easier.

PAPER

Beginners can use paper specifically made for oil painting to help cut down costs and storage space (storing stretched canvas or panels can take up alot of space).

OIL PAINTING PAPERS

1. Fabriano Tela Oil Paint Pads

2. Hahnemuhle Oil Paper Pads

CANVAS PAPERS

1. Strathmore Canvas Paper

2. Blick Studio Canvas Pads

3. Canson Foundation Canva-Paper

4. Fredrix Canvas Pads - genuine primed canvas in pad form (not paper)

EXTRA INFO:

Acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint can achieve ALL PAINTING STYLES ranging from REALISTIC to ABSTRACT artwork. Acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint all have PROS and CONS when painting therefore you must decide which CONS you are willing to deal with. ACRYLIC PAINT is very VERSATILE because it can resemble a watercolor painting or an oil painting depending on how it is used, plus acrylic paint is alot CHEAPER than oil paint.
