If you want to get all technical and are rather into art and distinctive mediums, there are some variations between watercolor and acrylic, but water combined with acrylic will be high-quality on your functions. You'll be able to most commonly need to use quite often water with a tiny bit of acrylic and work in many layers, permitting the piece to dry between washes. Probably in art, if you're no longer sticking to any designated medium, there are no ideas. Simply play along with your water-colour variety acrylic factor and see where it goes.

it will work but it won't be as beautiful as watercolor since poster is opaque and contains lots of chalk \it is not pigmented !

try some good quality watercolor paints , they will last long and it is much fun to use good quality .

also try watercolor papers , normal papers aren't good for watercolor .

Poster colors are of cheap quality, may contain lots of chalk like dried water colors that come in a palette. They are also non transparent. When colors are mixed they do not give the desired results. May not also last long and would start flaking after a certain time. Use a professional grade water colors instead that come in tubes, or in liquid form in bottles.

You can make watercolor paints with general household kitchen items. Here's a tutorial showing just one way of doing that:
