I went to Micheal's about 5 minutes ago and i bought a small 9 x 12 canvas, some Crimson acrylic paint and 12 white brushes all by the same company Artist's Loft. I've used their canvas before so i wanted to actually buy supplies i bought from them again. But in the store there were brown, and black and white Loft brushes. I thought white would be best so i can see if there's any paint still on the tip so i bought the white ones all in different sizes 1-9 round and 1/2, 3/8th, 3/4th size flat brushes. Is there a difference in painting strokes or color is i were to have bought the same brushes but in brown or black?

The white brushes are probably synthetic hair, nylon. Those are usually stiffer than the other synthetics. There is a a light brown/gold synthetic brush that is softer than the white. Natural hair brushes are often dark brown or black and are softer but can loose hair and get brittle. On the handle, it will tell you what the fiber is. The painting technique you use is more important than the color of the hair. The thinner you apply paint the softer brush you want. Your paint may stain the brushes but it doesn't mean there is paint in them. When you wash the brushes, when the color is gone, so is the paint. It's too bad you bought 12 brushes! You will find you have brushes you will seldom if ever use. The flats are so close to the same size, having 3 is over-kill. You could do with the 1/2". Same with the rounds. Buying 2, 6, and 12 separately would have been better. They do that with "sets" to make it look like you are getting lots of things. At least you didn't spend much money.

I don't think you'll have any regrets buying a range of sizes of brushes. Every artist has their personal preferences for brush sizes. Every painting is different. I've used every size from 3x0 to 2".

You're brushes will stain. Acrylic paint dries very fast; make absolutely sure you don't allow the acrylic paint to dry on the brushes.

Have fun.

the only difference is their color , it doesn't affect your painting at all !
