Spray painting a shirt - how to keep the paint from washing off?

I'm going to decorate a shirt, and I was thinking of making a stencil and then spray painting it on. What spray paint would work the best for painting on clothing? I'd rather not have to handwash, if at all possible, but I don't want my design to fade off or wash off. I also don't want the dried design to make the shirt stiff.

Also, is there any primer or sealer I might need? And what kind of shirt material is best for spray painting on?

Thanks!

Synthetic fabrics don't accept paint well, but 100% cotton is excellent. If you are referring to cans of spray paint, I can only tell you to read the label of different brands of paints. If you can an air compressor, then you can use acrylic paints with a fabric medium added, or a paint made just for fabric. As long as you use either the fabric paint or acryclic paint with the medium added it won't get stiff.

I have used fabric dye with my own stencils. I just dabbed a stiff brush into the hot dye and dabbed it off on a practice sheet. Then I put the dye on the shirt. It was excellent.

It would be a little hard!
