The color in your picture will look different on everyone's monitor.
You can't make red. It is a primary color so you have to buy a red paint. You can either locate this red or use a standard red and darken it with black. So you will also have to buy a black.

I would try adding black again to the red. One thing that helps me is to remember that once u put something in the color u can't take it out. Since red is a primary color (nothing makes red such as yellow and blue make green) just slowing add ur black. Look as the types of black ur have because things are added to the factory color, such as blue is added to whit to make white, which can be causing ur brown. Another thing is if ur mixing colors for a long time, their comes a point when all the colors look the same lol. Mix a few different shapes of red, walk away for a few minutes and then look at it again. U can also add green to ur red because green and red make black. A lot of times when I try making black with red and green it end up looking more of green or red to me. So if the black doesn't darken it the way u like try a little green. Good luck and have fun!

This question is old. But for anyone who asks the same question DONT use black. It makes colors flat and cloudy. Plus you'll end up with a muddy burgandy color. Use green to darken it. Always use small amounts at a time for its even harder to lighten. (In this case do NOT use white unless you want pink). Learn the color wheel. Once you do you'll have no problems. Good luck and happy painting

You mix black INTO red.
Start with a decent amount of red and add small amounts of black to it until you get roughly the color you need. This may make too bright of a dark red so to darken it a bit, you need to make it more of a grayish color like the only in the picture. To do this you simply add some white to it so it is a red tone (which is red + a gray). And then adjust either adding more black or white.
Good luck.

Then your black had blue in it.
What type of paint are you using? You need to get
'Lamp Black'. This is a true black. It doesn't have blue added to it.
If you are using enamel paint, I would find the color you want in a pre mix. Enamel paint like used for model cars, etc., would probably come in a color that is close to what you want. And the small bottles would probably be enough for your project.

NEVER, never, NEVER use black to darken colors. It will just make the colors muddy. That's not what you want. You need to mix a bit of it's compliment into it. Mix a TINY bit of green into the red to darken it. I rarely use black to paint with. I use a combination of burnt umber (dark brown) with thalo blue to make my black. These people need to take some color theory if they are going to be mixing colors correctly.
Hope this helps.

I realize this is a very old post, but you can mix red from secondaries. Use a orange & a violet, like dioxazine.
