Which ones do you think are better? I think they're both great...but I need to decide on one of them to use for a picture I'm ready to color. I guess it depends on what you draw and what type of paper you drew it on?

I like both dry pastels and oil pastels.

I didn't care for the oil pastels too much until I used some alcohol and a brush to move them around a bit, like oil paint. I like the coverage I get when doing that, and then the marks you can get on top of that base with the sticks. What I don't like so much is that they will forever remain sticky...

Dry pastels are great. The colors are amazing and you can step away or work right through and you never have to worry about it being too wet or too dry like oil or watercolor painting. The variety of marks and/or blending can give you an amazing array of choices to get the final "look" you want to your painting. The downside is sometimes you can fill up the "tooth" of your paper and have to spray, which can change some of the colors...which is why I prefer to use Pastelbord (it's got a great "tooth" and you can layer a LOT of pastel onto it).

After all this, I guess I do prefer the dry pastel over the oil pastel, but since they do each end up with a very different final look, I guess you will have to decide what you want your finished artwork to look like before you can decide which medium is the best to choose.

I like chalk pastels to play around with, and oil for the final copy because of the way they mix.

i like oil but they remind me of crayons and chalk smudge so easily so id go with the color pencil on my opinion but if i HAD to pick is pick oil pastels

I prefer chalk. Even though they could smudge easily, that is sometimes a good thing and they have better colors.
