What tools should I use to paint a night sky?

I'm not very experienced in painting, but I plan on trying to paint a night sky on a wall with regular paint. I want to get the milky way in there along with stars. But the Milky Way is very light, I was just wondering what kind of tool i should use to achieve such a light pattern without it being too heavy?

Use paint and brushes. I don't mean to be simplistic but painting is about seeing not about the tools.

Paint what you see in a night sky. Maybe look at some of the night skies painted by the masters like V.van Gogh.
