You're right to turn to art for help. We have a number of ways to heal ourselves by creating art to express emotions and improve our mental health, such as dot-art, mask making and drawing self-portraits. I became an artist partly in order to learn about and to console myself. Just as some other posts have already suggested, painting while listening to music is one helpful art-therapy approach. Here's another one that I like: Paint a mountain and a valley. The mountain can represent a time when you were happy, the valley, when you were sad. Take a glance at these sites listed below for some more activities that professional art therapists use. Try the activities that appeal to you. Thank you for posting this interesting question. All the best to you!
Just paint the surface of the canvas, not anything in particular if you don't want to, but just brush strokes and colour and texture.
Check out the nature sound recordings on iTunes, like sounds of thunder or rain or waves, they have no music and it's one of the last resort things for me when I'm struggling.

What's what you love most?
You can draw that thing.
I also have suicidal feelings, and when I have these feelings I draw dragons... They make me feel great.
You can also draw rainbows, or something colourful, it will help you :)
Good luck!

just start painting streaks of diffrent colors on your canvas and then you have an abstract or just paint what makes you feel happy or what you love :)
