You know how every painting at a gallery has that little tag/label with the name of the painting, artist, year ,etc.

What are they called?

Sandy is right and gets my vote! It is called a "label" (or "information label"). For an art paper I wrote, I did extensive research for the correct term, just to find out it was simply called a label.

Depends on how much info is on those labels. In group shows it is standard to put the artist's bio on those labels. In a one-man show that is unnecessary so they are usually just labels with size, medium, and price.

According to google, they are often just called "labels"
