How long does it take gesso to dry?

I am going to paint cheer boxes for some friends and I will be using acrylic paints. The boxes come on pre-sanded wood but I just wanted an approximation as to how long to wait after applying the gesso to start actually painting.

P.S. I bought the 'Daler Rowney Acrylic Gesso' from Wal-mart if that makes a difference.

It is water-based so not long at all but it all depends on how thick it is applied.
