I have an old family painting of a great or great-great grandmother that I want to make copies of for a few family members. I'm pretty sure the painting hasn't been taken out of the frame for years and I'm worried about damaging it. What steps should I take to preserve the integrity of the original painting and have multiple copies? They don't have to be fancy prints, just decent copies for sentimental value.

Look in the phone book for a printing shop, they will give you estimates, how to preserve your painting, and the price. More than likely, they will tell you to leave the picture in the frame its in and just bring it to them. They usually take it out of the frame, do the printing and put it back for you too. Also, if they don't do prints, they could tell you of a decent place for you to go.

Use a digital camera and take a picture of it in the frame. You can have it printed on canvas or there are companies online that will hand paint duplicates of the photo.
