Its arguable whether Pablo Picasso or Georges Braque started the movement, they both have created works that originated the idea so closely. Stylistically, some would say it was Picasso, though it was probably first called cubist with Braque's work.

Puppy is dead wrong on both counts. George Braque invented Cubism; Picasso just happened to be his roommate at the time and stole his style so people think he invented it. As to influence it was the works of Cezanne that allowed artists to try to see subject matter in three dimension thereby leading to Cubism. African tribal art also contributed to the style.

Hmm. Hard to answer. As there are different types of cubism. And different artists developed different types at different times and influenced each other.

One name spring to mind though:

Picasso. He is credited with the invention of cubism and this painting is named as the first cubist painting.
