His most famous is probably Genesis in the Sistine chapel. That image has been seen in reproductions all over the world. Especially the main panel with the hand of God reaching out to man.

I went to see some of his works at the De Young in San Francisco and his sculpture "David" was

truly an epic work of art. The statue is stunning and as close to perfection as I have seen. Its also imposing as to the size. Its the best in my opinion. "The Pieta" is next and the sistine chapel after that.

Michelangelo and Da Vinci were competitors of commissions from the Catholic church and this rivalry

produced some of the greatest artwork in history.

Michelangelo sculpted David before he turned 30. He didn't like painting much but he painted the scene of Genesis, the creation of man on the Sistine Chapel in Rome.

His name is one word Michaelangelo and his greatest work is just about anything he sculpted, not painted. I would say his David is the best known or most famous, although I much prefer Moses, it is much more drarmatic and powerful. His Slaves are the most interesting and abstract. His Pieta is the most moving and sad.
