I can't fathom any reason why this person is considered talented. If someone could give me one it would be much appreciated.

Part of it was the time frame, post WW2. Art usually has a social context, and Pollock's work is no different. It was a social response to other types of art that were popular at the time - and Pollock's work was rebelling against those other movements. Also, people were intrigued by his overall painting process, which was actually more involved and precise than it seems. He wasn't just slapping paint on the canvas, he was trying to do something different, and there was a method to it. He would lay a canvas on the floor, and his action of painting would become part of the painting itself.
Not a big fan of his work myself, but I do respect the reasons for the approach.

A lot of artists are famous for being the artist known for starting a style or type of art. His was the dripping. Nobody else had done it. Before he dripped the paint he did a lot of abstract and cubism like picasso. But it was not new enough. Picasso was already known for creating cubism. Same with monet when he had easier access to oil paint he started painting in impressionism. You want to be famous create something new.

The paint dribble paintings were part of an entire movement. Look at his work before that and you will be able to get more perspective of his talent.

I have never given into the idea that Pollack's work was of any great value. The argument is Pollack "invented" a new style of art but infants have been "splatter" painting for centuries.

you try coming up with something never done before... i personally like his work because to me, it looks cool. also, whoever did the paintings that are all one color are famous because they did it first. i don't like the one color paintings, but whoever started them, well, i've got to give them their props because i know i definitely would have never thought of it (probably because i don't like it)
