I just finished painting an acrylic for a friend. I want to give it to her before Christmas. How long should it sit to dry? Also what type of varnish? I was looking at the Liquitex medium F type. Any other tips on doing it? Thanks

Unless acrylics are very heavy impasto ,they will dry pretty quickly.,certainly in a few days. The easiest way for you to varnish this is to get an acrylic spray varnish. They probably make matte and gloss.
Make sure you shake the can very well and lean the painting up on edge. Do this in a well ventilated space. Don't breathe the stuff. There will be over spray so use newspaper to mask around the work. Then starting from top left spray across the art stopping the spray at the right corner. Now go back to just below the first spray and go across again. Always start the spray from the same side, never go back and forth. This will give you a nice even coat. Make sure the can is at least 12" away from the art. Two light coats, are best to avoid drips and runs. It is much easier than it sounds.
good luck
