Hey there!

For my English class we have to choose a William Blake painting. So after much searching I came up with this one that I really like:

However, the only thing I could find as a title/caption was "The Beast and the Whore Rule Without Control." I Googled that and apparently William Blake *wrote* that, but I can't find any evidence that it's one of his paintings.

Does anyone know what this painting is?

Thank you!

From what I can tell William Blake is just a writer and he did not paint this painting.( The Beast and the Whore Rule Without Control ) is under quite a few different paintings. So Blake was a writer and not a painter. The painting you show was just an artist's representation of that saying or caption that Blake wrote about.

Blake was a poet but also an artist - painter and illustrator - very famous. I have located the image you are looking for probably in the same place as you http://babbazeesbrain.blogspot.com/2008/11/missing-links-little-blakey-around.html

But this is not an illustration or etching by Blake, his style much more distinguished and easy to recognize see http://www.google.co.il/images?hl=en&q=william+blake+art&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=5shzTP_7HZSSjAehkJTgCA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CCwQsAQwAA&biw=1003&bih=543

This picture you chose was probably painted by someone not at all famous connected with the blog where this picture appears. And you are right, they have printed a quotation from one of Blake's poems. The image is not his.

Blake was both a writer and artist. I don't know who did that painting -- obviously not his style -- but if you are looking for Blake images, I suggest that you look through the online Blake Archive. Click on "Enter the Archive" and then on "Works in the Archive" to find material.
